It is an average size secondary school with 885 pupils on roll.

Up to 2010, the school specialised in Performing Arts, Sports, Mathematics and Computing.

Up to 2013, it was the Lead School in The Eastwood and Leigh Graduate Training Programme Partnership and is now a key strategic partner with several ITT providers.

Most pupils are of White British heritage and the proportion from minority ethnic backgrounds, and the proportion who speak English as an additional language, are well below the national average.

The proportion of pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium is close to the national average. 

The proportion of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs (SEND), is slightly above the national average.
